The chiquita serves as a tactical tool to force opponents at the net to play below waist level, creating an opportunity for the backcourt team to advance. Effective execution relies on disguising the shot as a standard lob during the preparation phase, preventing opponents from anticipating the drop. When playing a high ball, the player uses a slice motion while pushing forward, ensuring the ball clears the net and forces the opponent to lift it. When using the glass, the player lets the ball drop before contact, keeping the strike point in front of the body to maintain momentum toward the net.

Success depends on the movement of both partners toward the net while the ball is in the air. If the chiquita lacks depth or height, the player must remain at the back rather than rushing forward into a vulnerable position. Tactical placement varies between down-the-line, center, or angled shots, depending on the opponent's speed and positioning. This shot is best suited for advanced players who can balance the threat of a lob with the precision of a drop shot.
